KER MER and the G7 Fashion Pact
Greta Thunberg captured the world’s attention after her rousing speech on the climate crisis during the United Nations Climate Action Summit. Recently she implored further on the urgency of the situation, “As it is now, people in general don’t seem to be very aware of the actual science and how serious this crisis is,” she said to the scattered lawmakers at the hearing this week. “I think we need to inform them and start treating the crisis like the existential threat it is.”
This recalled the Fashion Pact initiatives led by President Emmanuel Macron during the G7 Summit in which he proposed the leading players in the fashion and textile sectors to set concrete targets for reducing the environmental impact of the textile industry and to formulate appropriate measures. The core commitments include mitigating climate change, lessening biodiversity loss and addressing ocean functionality.
As responsible global citizens and key players in the fashion industry, KER MER, as a collective of like-minded designers and makers, stands by these core values. By taking initiatives, we aim to minimize the environmental impact through thoughtful production methods and sourcing raw materials such as the organic and upcycled – all rooted in the natural heritage of the regions.
